The University of Las Américas, founded in 1994, is the largest private university in Ecuador. Its four campuses are located in the central north of Quito, the capital of the country, and has an experimental farm less than two hours away from the city. The UDLA offers more than 40 undergraduate programs, which have been developed under international standards.

Location

Quito, capital of Ecuador, is located in the heart of the Andes, just north of the equator on the slopes of Pichincha, an active volcano. At 2,850 meters high, it is the highest official capital in the world. It is known as the city of the "eternal spring" and has a pleasant climate. The temperature varies between 20ºC of day and 9ºC at night. Normally the dry season is from June to September and the rainy season from October to May. It is a modern city with the best preserved historical center of Latin America, which was also the first designated Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 1978. As you walk through its cobblestone streets around historic squares you will see many monasteries and churches century mansion, restored mansions, museums and colonial art.

Language Requirements

UDLA has 15 faculties and Schools, with 39 undergraduate programs. Most classes at the UDLA are taught in Spanish. We require a B2 minimum on the Spanish exam Cervantes.

Options

The International Programs Department coordinates with host St. Gallen Haus in Quito accommodation for foreign students, St Gallen Haus offers accommodation in rooms, apartments and host families. Each student will be able to choose the option of their preference. St. Gallen Haus has years of experience in providing long-term accommodation.
 
Living with a family hostess costs approximately $21 a day with breakfast and dinner included, plus internet service, laundry and basic cleaning each week. Other options include shared apartments or rooms, which cost between $15 and $ 60 per day. Check the St. Gallen Haus website for up-to-date information.
 
Living with a familiar Ecuadorian host is part of the cultural immersion and language experience for our students. Host families are selected through a selection process by St. Gallen Haus and are informed about their responsibilities to the safety and well-being of the students. St. Gallen Haus aims to ensure a safe, comfortable and enjoyable stay for our students.
