Abo Akademi University

Abo Akademi
Åbo Akademi was founded in 1918 with campuses in Åbo, Vasa and Jakobstad. There are also activities in Helsinki and on the Åland Islands. At the Åbo Akademi, they have around 5,500 undergraduate students and 780 postgraduate students. In total, there are about 1000 international students. Annually there are approximately 250 exchange students studying at Åbo Akademi University.

Location

The city was founded in the 13th century, making it the oldest city in Finland. Considered the best student city in Finland, with more than 35 000 students, Åbo offers students an exciting campus environment with a vibrant student life, an international atmosphere, and memorable student traditions. The Åbo campus lies in the heart of the old part of the city next door to the University of Turku. The two universities have a well-established cooperation within many areas of research and by working together are able to create strong areas of research and research of the highest quality for example within biosciences.

Language requirements

The university's official language of instruction is Swedish. Since a large number of courses are taught in English (approximately 250 annually), exchange students are, however, able to complete a full year of studies in English.

Options

They recommend that students apply for housing from the Student Village Foundation where they have 88 apartments and shared apartments reserved for exchange students coming to Åbo Akademi University.
 
Housing for exchange students is offered in single or shared apartments. All rooms are single rooms. Most exchange students live in shared apartments since there are not enough single apartments. All apartments have bathrooms and access to kitchen facilities.
