Founded in 1636, Utrecht University has evolved into a modern and leading institution with a growing international reputation. The Shanghai Ranking ranks the university in the Netherlands on 1, on a 13th place in Europe and worldwide on a shared 52nd place. Utrecht University offers 50 Bachelor's and 169 Master's degree programmes, many of them English-taught. The University is home to 29.755 students and 6.500 staff. Each year, more than 2000 students and researchers from abroad come to Utrecht for a short or longer time. It is one of the oldest universities in the Netherlands and one of the largest in Europe.

Location

Utrecht is the capital and most populous city in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is located in the eastern corner of the Randstad conurbation, and is the fourth largest city of the Netherlands with a population of 327,834. Utrecht is host to Utrecht University, the largest university of the Netherlands, as well as several other institutes for higher education. Due to its central position within the country, it is an important transport hub for both rail and road transport. It has the second highest number of cultural events in the Netherlands, after Amsterdam.  
 

Academics

Areas of study open to undergraduate exchange students:

Courses are offered at faculties of Humanities; Social and Behavioral Sciences; Geosciences; Law, Economics & Governance; Science. Courses in Biomedical Sciences at our faculty of Medicine are not open to exchange students.

University College Utrecht (UCU) and University College Roosevelt (UCR), the international honours colleges of UU, are also open to exchange students if GPA is (at least) 3.0 or more.

It is not possible to combine courses from UCU, UCR and UU.

Housing

Options

Due to a large number of students and shortage of rooms it is usually very hard to find housing in Utrecht. Therefore, Utrecht University offers guest students assistance with their housing through Short Stay Solutions. This independent housing corporation (SSH) makes housing arrangements upon request and under certain conditions. Information about the procedure will be sent to student after acceptance by UU.
 
Options include International student housing, Dutch student housing, and private landlord.
